Chaga and oxalate

Chaga is naturally high in oxalate. Two case reports link chaga powder to kidney damage from oxalate: one at about 10–15 g a day for around three months, one at a long-term dose that was not stated. Our serving is 1 g of mycelium powder, and the oxalate content of this material is not stated on the label. Ask a doctor before use if you have kidney problems or kidney stones, and ask first if you take blood thinners or diabetes medication.

We are serious about dosing. Ask away.

Is this the chaga that grows on birch trees?

No. It is cultured mycelium powder of Inonotus obliquus, not the black birch conk. Most chaga tea and most chaga research use the conk, and a 2025 analysis found grain-grown mycelium products differ sharply from it, so findings on conk don't carry over to this capsule.

Is it an extract?

No. The label says mushroom mycelium powder, 1,000 mg per serving of two capsules, standardized to 40% polysaccharides (400 mg). It does not say fruiting body, conk or extract.

What is it grown on?

The label doesn't say, and doesn't say how the polysaccharides were measured. Mycelium is usually cultured on grain, and a general polysaccharide measurement can count starch. The label prints no beta-glucan, triterpenoid or oxalate amount.

How do I take it?

Two capsules daily, with food or on an empty stomach, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
