Apple cider vinegar and vitamin B6: what a combination product actually gives you

Apple cider vinegar isn't a source of vitamin B6; "ACV + B6" products (commonly gummies) add B6 as a separate, measured ingredient. Here's what B6 actually does, how much you need, and the one dose-related caution worth checking on any B6-containing label.

By Electric Tiger Editorial

Apple cider vinegar isn't a source of vitamin B6 — USDA figures show none in a meaningful amount. Products labeled "ACV + B6" or "500mg ACV+B6+B12," usually gummies, add B6 as its own separate, measured ingredient rather than getting it from the vinegar. Here's what B6 actually does and what to check on that kind of label.

Vinegar doesn't supply the B6 in these products

By USDA FoodData Central figures, apple cider vinegar's nutrient profile is dominated by acetic acid, with only trace amounts of a handful of minerals — no meaningful vitamin B6. So when a gummy or capsule label lists both apple cider vinegar and B6, the B6 milligram amount printed on that label came from an added B6 ingredient (commonly pyridoxine hydrochloride), not from the vinegar itself.

What B6 actually does, and how much you need

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is a cofactor in more than 100 enzyme reactions involved in protein metabolism, red blood cell formation and nervous system function, per NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements. The adult RDA is 1.3 mg/day for most adults, rising to 1.7 mg/day for men over 50 and 1.5 mg/day for women over 50. The tolerable upper intake level from supplements is 100 mg/day.

That upper limit isn't just a formality. A 2023 systematic review of 20 studies found that high, sustained B6 intake — usually from supplements rather than food — has been linked to a sensory nerve problem: numbness or tingling, typically starting in the hands or feet. The review reported that symptoms improved after people stopped taking B6, and it didn't pin down one firm dose threshold where the risk starts. Most "ACV + B6" combination products use doses well under the 100 mg/day limit on their own — the total-intake concern is mainly relevant if you're also taking a separate multivitamin or B-complex on top of it, since B6 from each source adds up.

What to actually check on one of these labels

If you're looking at an "ACV + B6" or "ACV + B6 + B12" gummy, check two numbers separately rather than treating it as one combined "dose": the apple cider vinegar amount (commonly 500-800 mg per serving in gummy products — see apple cider vinegar gummies for what that format typically looks like) and the B6 amount, compared against the 1.3-1.7 mg RDA and the 100 mg/day upper limit above. No trial we've found has tested apple cider vinegar and B6 taken together for any outcome — each has its own separate research, and pairing them in one gummy doesn't create a tested combination effect.

What our label provides

Electric Tiger Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules provide 1,000 mg of organic apple cider vinegar powder per two-capsule serving, alongside inulin, a digestive enzyme blend and a probiotic strain — no added B6. If you're taking a separate B6 supplement or multivitamin alongside our capsules, the RDA and upper limit above are the numbers to check that against.

Questions people ask

Does apple cider vinegar have vitamin B6?

No — USDA figures show no meaningful B6 in apple cider vinegar. Any B6 in an "ACV + B6" product is a separate added ingredient.

Why do apple cider vinegar gummies add B6 and B12?

It's a formulation choice, not something inherent to vinegar — B vitamins are commonly added to gummy formats generally, and pairing them with apple cider vinegar creates a single "wellness" product rather than reflecting anything vinegar naturally contains.

Is too much B6 in a gummy something to worry about?

Most single combination products use B6 amounts well under the 100 mg/day upper limit. It becomes more relevant if you're stacking several B6-containing products — a multivitamin, a B-complex and a gummy — since the amounts add up across all of them, not per product.
