Does Creatine Monohydrate Contain B12?

Plain creatine monohydrate contains no vitamin B12 — the two are separate nutrients with separate roles. Creatine is an amino-acid compound the body uses for short bursts of energy; B12 is a vitamin the body needs for red blood cell formation and normal nervous system function. Some multi-ingredient formulas add B12 alongside creatine; a single-ingredient creatine product like ours does not.

Plain creatine monohydrate contains no vitamin B12 — they're separate nutrients with separate jobs. Creatine is an amino-acid compound the body uses to regenerate energy during short, high-intensity effort. B12 is a vitamin the body needs for red blood cell formation and normal nervous system function. A single-ingredient creatine product, like ours, is already "creatine without B12" by definition.

What each one is

Creatine raises intramuscular phosphocreatine, the compound the body draws on to help regenerate ATP during short bursts of effort. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) has an EU-authorized role in normal red blood cell formation, normal energy-yielding metabolism, and normal function of the nervous system and immune system (EFSA/EC Regulation 432/2012). Its adult RDA is 2.4 mcg/day (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements), a dose measured in micrograms — thousands of times smaller than creatine's gram-scale serving. They don't share a mechanism, a food source, or anything close to a comparable dose.

Why "creatine without B12" is a search people run

Some multi-ingredient pre-workout or "performance" blends add B12 to a creatine formula, usually as a marketing addition rather than because creatine requires it to work. Someone searching "creatine without B12" is typically looking for a plain, single-ingredient creatine product rather than a blend. A plain creatine monohydrate tub — ours included — contains no added vitamins, B12 or otherwise.

Is there a known interaction?

We didn't find a controlled trial testing creatine and B12 supplementation combined, so there's no research-based interaction to point to either way. The 2017 International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand, which reviews creatine's broader safety literature, doesn't flag B12 as a specific concern. Nothing about B12's established roles overlaps with creatine's phosphocreatine mechanism in a way that would suggest one affects the other.

Who tends to be low on B12

B12's main dietary sources are animal foods (meat, dairy, eggs, fish), so vegans and vegetarians are the population most commonly flagged as at risk of low intake, along with older adults with reduced absorption. A sports-nutrition review on vegetarian athletes notes the same group also tends to start with lower muscle creatine stores than non-vegetarians, which is part of why creatine supplementation is common in that group. Those are two separate, independent facts about the same population — not evidence that B12 status changes how creatine works, or the reverse.

Questions people ask

Does creatine monohydrate have B12 in it?

No. Plain creatine monohydrate is a single compound with no vitamins added. Any B12 in a product comes from a separately added ingredient, typically in a multi-ingredient blend.

Do you need B12 to take creatine?

No trial shows B12 is required for creatine to work. Creatine's mechanism (raising intramuscular phosphocreatine) doesn't depend on B12 status.

Can I take creatine and a B12 supplement together?

We didn't find a trial testing that combination, and there's no known conflict between the two. Each product's own label directions apply independently.
