Creatine and taurine: what the one combination trial found
The one trial that tested creatine plus taurine directly, in a small group exercising in heat and humidity, found the combination didn't significantly outperform creatine or taurine alone on repeated-sprint recovery.
Taurine is an amino acid found in energy drinks and many pre-workout blends, often paired with creatine on the assumption the two work better together. The one trial that has tested the combination directly, in a small group under hot, humid conditions, found it didn't produce a meaningful edge over creatine alone on repeated-sprint performance.
What the one combination trial found
A 2025 crossover trial gave 12 sports students four conditions on different days: placebo, taurine alone, creatine alone, and taurine plus creatine, then measured repeated-sprint performance after exhaustive exercise in 35°C, 65%-humidity conditions. Time to exhaustion was significantly longer with the taurine-plus-creatine combination than with placebo. But the trial's own stated conclusion was blunter: taurine, creatine, and the combination did not significantly improve repeated-sprint performance after exhaustive exercise in the heat compared with each other. Jump height actually decreased more in the creatine and combination groups after the exhaustion test than in the taurine-alone or placebo groups.
That's a small trial (12 people) in a specific, demanding condition — heat and humidity — not the everyday gym session most people are training in. It's also the only trial we found that isolates creatine-plus-taurine as its own condition rather than folding taurine into a multi-ingredient pre-workout blend, which is how most "creatine with taurine" products are actually formulated and which makes it impossible to credit either ingredient specifically for whatever the blend does.
What this means for a plain creatine tub
Electric Tiger Creatine Monohydrate lists one ingredient — creatine monohydrate, 5,000 mg per scoop, nothing else in the facts panel. It doesn't contain taurine, and nothing in the research above gives a reason to expect that adding it would change what a straight creatine protocol does for strength, power or muscle mass; see creatine benefits: what the research does and doesn't show for what creatine on its own is and isn't supported for. If you're specifically curious about taurine's own separate effects, that's a different ingredient with its own research base, outside what this page covers.
Questions people ask
Why do people take creatine with taurine?
Mostly because both show up together in pre-workout and energy-drink formulas, not because a body of trials has established a combined benefit. The one dedicated combination trial found no significant edge over creatine or taurine alone on the outcomes it measured.
Does creatine with taurine work better for women specifically?
We didn't find a trial that tested this combination in women specifically, or that reported a sex-specific result for the pairing. That's a gap in the research, not a finding one way or the other.
Is it safe to take creatine and taurine together?
The 2025 trial reported no safety concerns from combining them at the doses it used. That's one small study, though, not a full safety review of the combination.
Where does taurine come from, and why is it in so many products with creatine?
Taurine occurs naturally in meat and fish and is manufactured for use in energy drinks and sports supplements, usually well below the doses used in clinical research on taurine by itself. It's paired with creatine in commercial products mainly because both are common, inexpensive sports-nutrition ingredients that show up together in pre-workout formulas — not because a specific body of research on the pair has established a combined effect beyond what each does separately.

- Effect of Taurine Combined With Creatine on Repeated Sprinting Ability After Exhaustive Exercise Under Hot and Humid Conditions A small 2025 crossover trial (12 people) found combining taurine and creatine extended time to exhaustion versus placebo under hot, humid conditions, but the study's own conclusion was that none of taurine, creatine or the combination significantly improved repeated-sprint performance compared with each other.
