Is it safe to take berberine every day?
Berberine's safety data covers trials up to three months. We haven't found published research on daily use beyond about six months, at any dose, including ours.
Berberine's safety research covers trials lasting up to three months, at 900 mg to 1.5 g a day, with transient digestive upset as the main reported issue. We haven't found published human safety data on daily use beyond about six months, at any dose — including ours.
What the safety research actually covers
The longest berberine trial we found in our research ran three months, at 1.5 g a day, with about a third of participants reporting transient digestive effects that eased over time. A 2026 review of berberine's safety and interaction profile summarizes what's known across this literature — mostly short-term data, mostly at doses well above our 73 mg serving.
The real gap: long-term daily use
We haven't found published safety data on daily berberine use beyond roughly six months, at any dose — which is the timeframe a subscription actually produces. That's not unique to our product; it's a gap in the published research on the ingredient generally. If you're considering ongoing daily use, that's worth knowing going in, and worth raising with a doctor if you take medication or have an ongoing health condition.
What doesn't change with a lower dose
Electric Tiger Berberine's ~73 mg serving is well under the doses used in the safety trials above, but a lower dose doesn't relax berberine's broad interaction profile — it affects how the body processes a range of medications regardless of how much is taken. Questions people ask
Is berberine safe?
The available research is mostly short-term (up to three months) and at doses above ours, with digestive upset as the main reported effect. We haven't found data specific to long-term daily use at any dose, including our 73 mg serving.
Is it safe to take berberine every day, or long term?
Our label directs daily use, but we haven't found published safety data on daily berberine use beyond about six months. If you plan to take it long-term, that's a real unknown worth knowing rather than assuming is settled.
Are berberine patches safe?
We don't sell, and haven't independently reviewed research on, transdermal berberine patches — a different product with a different safety profile than an oral capsule.
Is berberine safe for the liver?
We haven't found liver-specific safety data on berberine at our dose in the research we reviewed. Talk to a doctor before use if you have any liver or kidney concerns — our label already advises this for any medical condition.
When to talk to a doctor
Talk to a doctor before starting daily berberine if you're pregnant or nursing, under 18, taking any medication, or have an ongoing health condition — especially if you're considering long-term rather than occasional use.
