Cautions

Diet
Vegan, Gluten-free, Allergen-free
Other ingredients
Rice flour, hypromellose (vegetable capsule).

CoQ10 and medication

Ask a physician before use if you take any medication, especially blood thinners, or have a medical condition, and if you are pregnant or nursing or under 18. A 24-person trial of 100 mg a day in people on a stable blood thinner found no change, but that is half the 200 mg in this capsule, and earlier case reports described a reduced response to the drug.

How to take it

We are serious about dosing. Ask away.

Is this ubiquinone or ubiquinol?

Ubiquinone, the oxidized form, printed on the panel as Coenzyme Q-10 (Ubiquinone) 200 mg. It is not ubiquinol. Two small trials compared the forms on blood levels only and disagree, so we do not say either one is better absorbed.

How do I take it?

One capsule once a day, 20–30 minutes before a meal, or as directed by your healthcare professional. CoQ10 is fat-soluble and our capsule is a plain powder with no oil; we found no human trial of taking ubiquinone before versus with a meal, so we say nothing about absorption.

What dose do the trials use?

The studies that reported effects used 300 mg a day, 1.5 times our 200 mg, and their abstracts did not say whether the CoQ10 was ubiquinone or ubiquinol. A 2006 safety review covered 60 to 1,200 mg a day and found no dose-related side effects in that range. We make no benefit claim at 200 mg.

Who should ask a doctor first?

Ask a physician before use if you are pregnant or nursing, under 18, take any medication (especially blood thinners) or have a medical condition. A small trial of 100 mg a day in 24 people on a stable blood thinner found no change, but that is half our dose, and earlier case reports described the opposite.

Is it a softgel with oil?

No. It is a powder-filled hypromellose capsule with rice flour. In a 10-person trial from 1994, an oil-based softgel was absorbed better than a powder capsule, so formulation can matter. We have no absorption data on this product.
