Apple cider vinegar and zinc: what each one actually provides

Apple cider vinegar itself isn't a meaningful source of zinc — USDA figures put it at trace amounts. Some combination supplements pair the two anyway, adding zinc as a separate, measured ingredient rather than relying on vinegar for it.

By Electric Tiger Editorial

Apple cider vinegar isn't a meaningful source of zinc. By USDA FoodData Central figures, it carries only trace amounts — around 0.04 mg per 100 g, a small fraction of the 8-11 mg adult daily target. Some combination supplements pair the two anyway, but that's zinc added as its own separate ingredient, not something vinegar itself provides.

What's actually in apple cider vinegar

By USDA figures, liquid apple cider vinegar is mostly water and acetic acid, with trace amounts of a handful of minerals carried over from the apples it's fermented from — including a small amount of zinc, around 0.04 mg per 100 g. A tablespoon (about 15 g) provides only a fraction of that trace figure. That's not enough to register as a meaningful contribution toward the 8-11 mg most adults need in a day, at any realistic serving size, liquid or capsule.

What zinc actually does, and how much you need

Zinc is a cofactor for hundreds of enzymes and is needed for normal immune cell development, wound healing, and DNA and protein synthesis, according to NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements. The adult RDA is 11 mg/day for men and 8 mg/day for women, counting food and supplements together. The tolerable upper intake level is 40 mg/day from all sources combined — a ceiling that's easy to cross if someone stacks a multivitamin, a specific zinc supplement and a fortified food or drink without adding them up. Zinc's own research on specific outcomes, including where the evidence is and isn't strong, is covered in zinc: what the research does and doesn't show.

Why some products pair the two anyway

"Apple cider vinegar and zinc" combination products exist in the market, usually as part of a broader immune-support or general-wellness formula rather than because vinegar itself supplies the zinc. No trial we've found has tested apple cider vinegar and zinc taken together, at any dose, for any outcome — each has its own separate research, and combining them in one capsule or gummy doesn't create a tested combination effect. If a product lists both, the zinc amount on that label is the number to check against the RDA and upper limit above; the vinegar amount doesn't add to it.

What our label provides

Electric Tiger Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules provide 1,000 mg of organic apple cider vinegar powder per two-capsule serving, alongside inulin (a prebiotic fiber), a digestive enzyme blend (DigeZyme®) and a probiotic strain — 30 servings a bottle, as low as $12.95 on subscription. We don't make a claim about this product's zinc content, and its label doesn't add zinc separately.

Questions people ask

Does apple cider vinegar have zinc?

Only in trace amounts — about 0.04 mg per 100 g by USDA figures, far short of a meaningful contribution to the 8-11 mg adult daily target.

Should I take apple cider vinegar and zinc together?

No trial we've found has tested the combination for any outcome. Each has its own separate research; taking both isn't something the evidence supports or contradicts specifically.

Can apple cider vinegar help zinc absorption?

We haven't found a human trial testing whether apple cider vinegar changes how much zinc the body absorbs from food or a supplement. That's a different, more specific claim than the two simply being combined in one product, and it isn't one we can back with a citation.
