Guide
How much lion's mane should you take a day?
No dose of lion's mane is established. Healthy-adult trials used 1.8 g to 10 g in different forms; our label gives 1,000 mg of powder across two capsules.
No dose of lion's mane is established. The trials in healthy adults used 1.8 g a day for 28 days, a single 3 g dose of a 10:1 extract, and 10 g a day in muffins. Our label gives 1,000 mg of powder a day, two capsules, which is below all of them and in a different form.
What the trials used
Doses in lion's mane research are not comparable without the form, because a powder, an extract and a food are different things. The healthy-adult trials we found:
| Trial | Dose | Form | Length | Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 pilot (PMID 38004235) | 1.8 g a day | Not stated in the abstract | Single dose, then 28 days | 41 adults |
| 2025 crossover (PMID 40276537) | 3 g, one dose | 10:1 fruiting-body extract | Assessed at 90 minutes | 18 adults |
| 2022 trial (PMID 36582308) | 10 g a day | Baked into muffins; part not stated | 4 weeks | 24 adults |
Trials in people with diagnosed conditions used around 3 g a day of powder and about 1,050 mg a day of a standardized mycelium. We leave those out here because they are a different population; they are in lion's mane benefits: what the research does and doesn't show, with the results. The takeaway for dosing is that trial doses ran from about 1 g to 10 g a day, nobody has tested what is best, and the 10 g trial did not find more than the others.
What our label gives you
Lion's Mane Mushroom provides 1,000 mg of organic fruiting body and mycelium powder per serving of two capsules (500 mg per capsule), standardized to 40% polysaccharides (400 mg), 30 servings a bottle, as low as $18.23 a bottle on subscription. Directions: two capsules daily, with food or on an empty stomach, or as directed by a health care professional. That is 56% of the 1.8 g trial dose, and a powder where one trial used a concentrate. Where the trials used much more, we say so plainly: our serving is well below the trial doses, and no trial tested it.
The 400 mg is a standardization note inside the 1,000 mg, not an extra amount. The label does not say how the polysaccharides were measured or how much of the powder is mycelium versus fruiting body.
Questions people ask
How much lion's mane should I take, and what is the dosage per day?
No established dose exists, and we do not give a number as advice. Follow the directions on your product's label; ours says two capsules daily. If a doctor has given you a different amount, follow that.
What is the lion's mane dose per day for nerve regeneration?
No human dose has been established for that. Nerve growth findings come from lab and animal work, and we found no human trial measuring it. A label or seller quoting a "nerve" dose should show a study at that dose and form.
How much lion's mane is too much, and what are overdose symptoms?
No upper limit has been set, and we found no overdose studies. A 2025 systematic review listed stomach discomfort, headache and allergic reactions as possible side effects, noting they are commonly unreported (PMID 40959699). Do not exceed label directions, and see lion's mane side effects.
What is the lion's mane tincture dosage?
A tincture is a liquid extract, and strengths vary by maker, so its drops cannot be converted into capsule milligrams. We found no trial of a tincture. Use the label of the tincture you have, and do not combine it with capsules without reading both.
Should I take more than the label says?
Nothing we found supports it. The highest-dose healthy-adult trial (10 g a day for 4 weeks) reported no significant effect on its measures. For timing, see when to take lion's mane.
Before you take it
Do not use it if you are allergic to mushrooms. Ask a physician before use if you are pregnant or nursing, under 18, on medication or have a medical condition. We give no dosing guidance for pregnancy or children.
